Parameterized Complexity of Graph Constraint Logic

چکیده

Graph constraint logic is a framework introduced by Hearn and Demaine [6], which provides several problems that are often a convenient starting point for reductions. We study the parameterized complexity of Constraint Graph Satisfiability and both bounded and unbounded versions of Nondeterministic Constraint Logic (NCL) with respect to solution length, treewidth and maximum degree of the underlying constraint graph as parameters. As a main result we show that restricted NCL remains PSPACE-complete on graphs of bounded bandwidth, strengthening Hearn and Demaine’s framework. This allows us to improve upon existing results obtained by reduction from NCL. We show that reconfiguration versions of several classical graph problems (including independent set, feedback vertex set and dominating set) are PSPACE-complete on planar graphs of bounded bandwidth and that Rush Hour, generalized to k × n boards, is PSPACE-complete even when k is at most a constant. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.2.2 Nonnumerical Algorithms and Problems

A Does Treewidth Help in Modal Satisfiability?

Many tractable algorithms for solving the Constraint Satisfaction Problem (Csp) have been developed using the notion of the treewidth of some graph derived from the input Csp instance. In particular, the incidence graph of the Csp instance is one such graph. We introduce the notion of an incidence graph for modal logic formulas in a certain normal form. We investigate the parameterized complexi...

Fixed-Parameter Complexity in AI and Nonmonotonic Reasoning

This paper studies the fixed-parameter complexity of various problems in AI and nonmonotonic reasoning. We show that a number of relevant parameterized problems in these areas are fixedparameter tractable. Among these problems are constraint satisfaction problems with bounded treewidth and fixed domain, restricted satisfiability problems, propositional logic programming under the stable model s...

Harnessing Tractability in Constraint Satisfaction Problems

The Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) is a fundamental problem in computer science that takes as input a finite set of variables, a finite set of values and a set of constraints, which are arbitrary relations imposed on certain subsets of variables. The goal is to find an assignment of values to variables that satisfies every constraint. The generality of CSP and its connections to logic, u...

Constraint Satisfaction Parameterized by Solution Size

In the constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) corresponding to a constraint language (i.e., a set of relations) Γ, the goal is to find an assignment of values to variables so that a given set of constraints specified by relations from Γ is satisfied. The complexity of this problem has received substantial amount of attention in the past decade. In this paper, we study the fixed-parameter tractab...
